Tummo
tib. གཏུམ་མོ་, gtum mo
Tummo is a tantric practice of inner heat that works with the breath, subtle channels, and the body’s energies.

It works not only with the physical body, but also with the subtle system of channels (tsa), inner winds (lung), and vital essences (tigle).

Through breathing, concentration, visualization, and specific yogic methods, the practitioner learns to work with the subtle interconnection between body, energy, and the state of consciousness.

Its purpose is to gather and direct the vital winds into the central channel, awakening inner heat, clarity, and bliss. These experiences then become a support for deeper contemplation and recognition of the nature of mind.

Kusum Rangshar —
“The Self-Arising of the Three Bodies”
The retreat teachings are based on the Kusum Rangshar cycle by Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen, one of the great Dzogchen masters of the Yungdrung Bön tradition.
Kusum Rangshar is a complete system of Dzogchen practice in which work with the body and subtle energies is integrated with meditation and the Dzogchen View.
If the mind rides the wind, then by gaining control over the winds, one also gains control over the mind. It is like a horse that has been tamed by a person and will no longer run away.

Lectures and Q&A sessions with Khenpo Arta Lama Rinpoche

The teachings will be given daily and will focus on the first part of the retreat: the preliminary practices of Tummo and the practice of the Soft Wind.

Three practice sessions each day, during which we will do:

  • Visualization of the subtle channels within the Dakini
  • Visualization of the chakras and winds within the channels
  • Visualization of the paternal and maternal elements within the central channel
3. Purification of the Subtle Channels
Three methods of purification will be introduced:
  • Using coarse syllables as the support
  • Using medium-sized tiglés as the support
  • Using the subtle wind as the support
4. Special Preliminary Practices
  • Creating the protective tent
  • Clearing the poisonous wind, a practice closely related to the Nine Purification Breaths
  • Blessing the channels, winds, and tiglés through the sequences of vowels and consonants (Āli-Kāli)
Training in Trulkhor and 28 days of Soft Wind practice

What preparation is required for the Tummo retreat?
Since Tummo is an advanced tantric practice of the completion stage, you need to understand the main principles of the tantric path before undertaking this retreat.
If you are not yet familiar with these principles, we recommend first taking our Tantra course, which begins on November 1 and will be completed before the Tummo retreat starts. The course will provide the essential knowledge needed for the retreat.
During the retreat, we will not have enough time to go into detail on basic questions related to Tantra. Due to the limited time available, during the Q&A sessions priority will be given to specific questions concerning the practice of Tummo.
We kindly ask for your understanding regarding this.
Will the Lung transmission for the practice be given during the retreat?
Yes. The Lung transmission will be given twice — on the first and final day of the retreat, so you will have another opportunity to receive it.
Will I be able to access the retreat recordings?
The retreat recordings will be uploaded to your personal account and will remain available indefinitely, but only to those who participated in the retreat.
In other words, it will not be possible to purchase the recordings after the retreat.
